The Children’s Research Network held a practical workshop on 'Designing Research' on Thursday, 7th June.

This was the first workshop in the CRN Research Skills Summer School 2018, aimed at practitioner researchers and research interested professionals, including early years educators, social workers, youth workers, teachers, research consultants and early career academics.

The School consisted of a series of workshops held on Thursday evenings, including sessions on sampling and recruitment; data collection methods; data analysis and training in different software packages; practitioner research; introduction to statistical analysis; ethics; and conducting literature searches and reviews.

In this workshop on research design, participants were given the opportunity to learn how to create a research question and design a small or large scale research project.

Participants had the opportunity to work closely with Ailbhe Booth from UCD's Geary Institute for Public Policy, with experience of large research projects using mixed methods and working as part of a team.
