The Children’s Research Network is committed to respecting the privacy of all individuals who are members of the Network and who use our website, communications and social media channels, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.

This policy explains what data we collect when you become a member, visit our website or subscribe to our communications. It also outlines how we use that data and how you can opt out.

Our communications platforms

The Children’s Research Network is a members' organisation active across the island of Ireland. The Network organises events and produces a range of publications online. 

We use our website to communicate about our work as a Network and the work of members of the Network. 

If you become a member of the Network you have the option of signing up for our mailing list. If you choose to sign-up to this list you will receive our regular emails about the network, events, research opportunities and publications. You can also sign up for the Network to contact you regarding opportunities for potential collaborations or connections. We would never pass on your email address or details without your consent.

What data do we collect on our website?

Your membership data

The Children’s Research Network aims to bring together and connect a wide range of professionals. When you become a member of the network you are asked to provide the following:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Location
  • Discipline
  • Organisation and Occupation
  • Research interests
  • Personal biography

We do not ask you for any data which includes sensitive information.

This information will be shared with other members of the network. See "Your Network-only Profile below"

You will also be given the option to share your information publicly on our website: see "Your Public Profile" below

A record of your profile is securely held on the back-end of our website.


Our website uses cookies, small text files which are placed on your computer or device as you navigate a website. We use Google Analytics cookies to tell us about levels of activity on our website, for example which pages on the site are used more frequently. This information helps us to improve and enhance our website. A cookie is also stored in your browser when you use the membership section. This enables us to validate your credentials and helps you to navigate the members-only section.

We do not collect any personal details about you using cookies. Any of the data or information that we gather using cookies is anonymised and only used to help us improve our website. We don’t use it for other purposes, such as donations or advertising, and we won’t share this information with others unless we are legally required to do so. Processing your payment

Payment of membership is usually taken online where we use Stripe, a third-party payment platform to process your payment. Stripe is GDPR-compliant, and our Stripe account is password secured. We do not see your payment information or share any details with any other third party, except where required to by law. Please click here for Stripe’s privacy policy.

Your Network-Only Profile

The data you provide at registration forms your network-only profile. This can only be viewed by other members in the private Members section of the website. Members must first log in to access this private section using a password. In your profile, members can only see the information you have provided.

Your Public Profile

When you register to become a member of the network you are also given the option to make your profile public on the Children’s Research Network website. At any time, you can ‘opt-in’ or ‘opt-out’ of this feature by logging in and going to your profile settings.

Changing your profile settings and opting-out

You can add to, amend or delete the information contained in your profile at any time through logging into the network as a member and going to your profile settings. The Children’s Research Network will not add or amend the details of your profile or share it with anyone outside of the network or any third party without your consent.

A record of your profile and consent decisions is saved securely on the back-end of our website, accessible only to the team in the Children’s Research Network.

Subscribing and unsubscribing to the mailing list

When registering to become a member you are asked if you would like to opt-in to our mailing list.

We use Mail Chimp to forward communications such as digests, bulletins and information on conferences and other events to those who have opted-in to receive them.

Mail Chimp also uses email tracking that tells us when you have opened an email and what links you clicked on. We use this information only to improve our communications and inform our communications planning and reporting. If at any time you decide that you no longer wish to hear from us you can unsubscribe from our mailing list through the settings section of your network profile. All communications will include an unsubscribe option.

Expired membership

In accordance with our data protection policy, your details will be removed from our website once your membership has expired. Your data will then be deleted in accordance with our Data Protection Policy.

Who do we share your information with?

CRN is committed to respecting your privacy. At times your data may be shared with other third-parties in order to fulfil legitimate network activities. This includes Eventbrite for organising conferences and PayPal for processing other payments. We commit to only using third-party providers that are compliant with GDPR. Your personal data will not be used for any other purpose, including direct marketing.

Right of subject access

As part of our commitment to respecting your privacy you have the right to request details on the personal data we collect about you. This right includes information on who processed your data as well as when and why it was processed. You also have the right to request a copy of your personal data.
