Senior lecturer and play researcher , University College Cork
My background is in Occupational Therapy and Montessori education- I worked for 20 years with children with disabilities and their families in community home and special school settings, before taking up an academic post in 2004 in the newly established Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, UCC. My MSc research focused on the use of time-diaries to capture typical routines and occupations of middle childhood in an urban setting; my PhD concerned an exploration of the physical home environment, and an ecological study of the emergence of play in home settings. My current postdoctoral work focuses on community playspaces as sites of social inclusion. I am currently one of two Irish representatives on the European COST Action: Play for Children with Disabilities (Ludi).
